Red-Shouldered Hawk Wood Burn

Description

I'm lucky enough to be back in the woods these days! Early in March, I was taking a walk around my community, when I spotted a big nest up in the trees not far off the road. As I approached it, a red-shouldered hawk flew over my head, with a snake in its beak!
Now that same nest is happily occupied by a pair of red-shouldered hawks and their young. You can see the pair feeding them almost constantly, and when they're not at the nest itself, they're always nearby.
I was dying to immortalize the image somehow, so I decided to scavenge up some wooden boards that were piled in a heap in my garage. I think I finally got a good feel for my wood burner after this piece. This is 20" long and just over 7" wide.

That's a lot of practice for 20" of wood burning! Great patterning! You even got the lines of the snake scales and tree texture and shading on the hawk's head...you keep surprising me! :D
